Origins

In 2017, when the Jacó Rays franchise could no longer support the financial burden they had created since 2014, businessman José Luis Rodriguez purchased the franchise rights. On May 3rd, 2017, in the town of Moravia, in the province of San Jose, the club was officially renamed from Jacó Rays to Futbol Consultants Moravia,  the beginning the era of Fútbol Consultants as a professional team.

In its early days, the club was seen as a successor to the Moravian Sports Union, a club that was previously located in Moravia. Though the town possessed a stadium that met all of the requirements for  a Second Division team, there was a several year gap the last time a professional club was playing in second division representing Moravia. Fútbol Consultants was only structured as a youth club, academy and women’s soccer organization, however now they had a foothold in the professional level as well.

The professional club is primarily sponsored by the multinational company from which it was named, Fútbol Consultants, which is a sports academy dedicated to youth training, university scholarships and professional representation.

The club’s first coach, in their debut season of Fall 2017, was former professional footballer Robert Arias.

Change of venue and name

In September 2018, once the “Apertura”, or Opening Tournament, of the Second Division started, the franchise moved to the town of Desamparados. This move was primarily due to lack of logistical support from  Moravia’s Municipality and community sponsors, as well as the limited fans and the poor conditions of the “Pipilo” Umaña stadium making Moravia an inefficient location for the club.

Thanks to the agreement signed between the team president and the previous mayor of the Desamparados, the club was renamed Futbol Consultants Desamparados, and its headquarters are now the Jorge Hernán “Cuty” Monge stadium. The modification included the change of colors from red to blue in the team shield and in the uniform.

Nowadays

The club appointed Monica Malavassi as the president of the club.

She became one of only two women acting as president of a professional football club in Costa Rica.

Under Monica’s leadership, the club has a perfect record of qualification, reaching the knockout stage since the 2019-2020 season. Also, the club has become the country’s biggest provider of Costa Rican youth national team players, with multiple players representing FC in each of the National Team’s age groups.

Since the founding of FC in the 2017-2018 season, FC has consistently had the most minutes played by under 21 year olds in Costa Rica.

Due to this philosophy of playing younger players, FC has developed quality players of the caliber of Fernan Faerron, Jose Arturo Tello, Jose Alejandro Ruiz, Santiago Van der Putten; among others, that today play in Costa Rica’s top league.
