FC Desamparados suffered a narrow defeat against the current group leader, Escorpiones de Belén, last Saturday, August 12 at 8:00pm on the Polideportivo de Belén.
The contest started strong and at a fast pace with both teams attempting to assert their dominance. The game was high intensity and both teams saw options to score, yet none were able to.
The first half ended with a closed match and no goals with either team.
Nevertheless, the home team was able to hit in the first three minutes of the second half, scoring the opening goal in the 48th minute.
It took them only 6 minutes to find the back of the net once again. Even though the referee did not see it, the attacker pushed the ball in with his hand, which could be seen in the film. The visitor team tried to ask for the hand ball, yet the referee did not change his mind and called it a valid goal.
In the 58th minute, the home team scored their third goal off from a free kick, which was an impossible save for the goalkeeper.
FC Desamparados continued to show glimpses of good football while playing at a high tempo, and was able to find the back of the net in the 58th minute with a shot by the Sub20 player, Andrés Pereira.
Later on in the 74th minute, the striker Alfred Pérez, who had debuting in the Costa Rican Second Division, was able to score his first goal.
In an attack by FC Desamparados, the home team committed a foul inside the box, where the referee called a penalty kick. The striker, Alfred Pérez, took the shot but was saved by Escorpiones’ goalkeeper.
The final score was 3-2 in favor of the home team, Escorpiones de Belén.
Following the match, FC Desamparados will encounter Guadalupe FC on Friday August 18th, at 8:00pm on their home field, Estadio Coyella Fonseca.
