After being part of Futbol Consultants Edson Soto and playing in the youth team for years, both players had their official debut in the Costa Rican Second Division last Friday, July 28th.
Both players have been training with the First Team throughout preseason, and just became champions in their Alto Rendimiento tournament last month. They were both included in the roster for this season and saw their first minutes in the professional league last weekend.
Julián Rojas, also known as “Popi”, not only debuted as part of the starting 11, but also played the whole 90 minutes of the match. Based on an interview made to the 18-year-old, he explains this was an opportunity he had been waiting for a long time. “Even though for different reasons I didn’t had the chance to debut before, God has always been in control of me and maybe before wasn’t the moment for me,” Rojas says.
He continues by saying he has a greater level of maturity on field than before. Rojas admitted it took him some minutes to losen up, “I was nervous in at the beginning and had a rough first 25 min of the game, however, as the game went on I was able to play with more confidence and started to losen up and risk more,” Rojas says.
The midfielder hopes to get more minutes with the first team, do a good season and continue to grow as a player and a person.
In addition, Julián Mesén is another outstanding player with a great future ahead of him, who saw his first minutes in the professional league of Costa Rica. With only 17 years of age, the striker was called for the first time to an official Second Division game. “Once I was called for the game I was really nervous, however I was overflowed by joy,” Mesén says.
The striker explains the moment he was subbed in, as he says, “I was really focused warming up, when unfortunately one of my teammates suffered an injury. The coach called me up, and I was more than happy to step into the field and give it all for the team.”
He continues, “The truth is I have put in a lot of effort and have always given the best of me, and thank God it’s been rewarded. It has been pure effort and patience.”
Mesén feels he can contribute a lot to the team, and will give it all for the team every time he steps into the field. He believes this is going to be a really good tournament for the team because of the group they’ve built and the family-like environment they have.
We wish both players the best of luck in this tournament and are excited to see what’s next to come.
