All the way from Montville, NJ, Andrés Lazo came to Costa Rica and spent his gap year improving and training soccer at a high level.
In FC Desamparados, Lazo was given the opportunity to train, play and live like a professional soccer player by being part of our FC Residency, which includes daily trainings, room, board and transportation. This is the only international Residency in Costa Rica that has their very own professional team.
The midfielder trained everyday with our professional club and competed with our team in the Costa Rican U-20 league, providing him with the best exposure to get confident and boost his skills. Lazo improved so much his level, he even got the chance to debut at the Costa Rican pro level.
Based on an interview made to Lazo during his time in Costa Rica, he explained being part of FC Residency was a great decision for him, “It’s been a really good experience so far with the first team and being able just to train with them and just overall get better as a player and a person,” Lazo said.
In addition, our FC Residency is an excellent option for high school seniors during their gap year, as it provides players the experience needed to go into college; and Lazo was not the exception. New Jersey Institute of technology just announced Lazo as their newest recruit for this upcoming season.
Due to his great choice of spending his gap year in our FC Residency, constantly putting into the work, having daily high-level trainings, consistently improving his skills and with our connections in the collegiate soccer; Andrés Lazo has now been given the opportunity to play at the NCAA Division I school, NJIT. The midfielder will be pursuing a major in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
We wish him the best of luck in his journey!
