FC Desamparados faced Cariari Pococí on the first game of the season on Saturday, January 14th at 1:00pm as the home team on the Estadio Colleya Fonseca. The game was open to public and the final score was 2-1 in favor of Cariari Pococí.
The game started at a high tempo with both teams trying to assert their dominance. The home team, FC Desamparados was the first one to strike. It was the debutant, Luis Elizondo, who scored from inside the box off from a corner kick on the 20th minute.
Nevertheless, 5 minutes later Cariari Pococí hit back and tied the game. The game continued at a high tempo, where both team had some clear chances to score.
Nevertheless, it was Cariari who took the lead on the 33rd minute. There was no change in the scoreboard during the first half.
The second half came strong for FC Desamparados, until the 57th minute when the forward, Fabricio Venegas, was shown a red card after complaining to the referee.
This placed FC Desamparados in an uphill position for the rest of the game, making it harder for them to find opportunities to score. Hence, even though the home team put all their effort in, they were not able to change the scoreboard.
