FC Desamparados faced Municipal Liberia on the second game of quarter finals on Saturday, November 12 at 7:00pm as a visitor at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño. The game was open to public and in the final score the visitors went down by two, ending FC Desamparados’ season.
Municipal Liberia already had a lead of three goals, meaning FC Desamparados had a challenge to turn around the scoreboard. The visitor team managed to assert their dominance in the first minutes of the game, having three clear chances in the first 5 minutes.
Nevertheless, FC Desamparados hit the goal post twice and wasn’t able to concrete their chances. As a visitor, the team was confident and managed to keep the home team stuck in their own half.
The game continued at a high tempo and the home team found a moment of distraction to break the deadlock at the 6th minute. Even though it was a splash of cold water, FC Desamparados kept fighting. They had several chances to score, yet the ball could not find the back of the net.
There was no change in the scoreboard during the first half.
The attacks from FC Desamparados continued in the second half, against a Municipal Liberia that struggled to keep the ball. The game became very physical for both teams.
The visitors subbed into the field four forwards, pushed the lines up risking it all, yet still could not score. The home team killed the game in the 90th minute when they scored the second goal.
Even though FC Desamparados had not much more to do, they continued to give a fight. Nevertheless, there was no change in the final score.
Municipal Liberia won the quarter finals series with a lead by 5, ending FC Desamparados’ season.
Following the match, FC Desamparados will begin preparing for the next season, aspiring to win the tournament and playing against this seasons’ yet-to-be-crowned winner.
