FC Desamparados faced Municipal Liberia on the first game of quarter finals on Sunday, November 6th at 5:00pm in in their home field, Estadio Jorge Hernán Cuty Monge. The game was open to public and in the final score the home team went down by three.
The game started at a high tempo with both teams trying to assert their dominance. However, Municipal Liberia seemed to have more confidence keeping the possession of the ball, maintaining the team compact when defending, and also doing high pressure when they didn’t have the ball.
Nevertheless, the home team did have some chances in front of the opponents’ goal. The forward Sergio Moreno even took a shot from outside the box, yet was not able to place it correctly, making the shot off target.
It was the away team who broke the deadlock after the 35th minute after the forward received a cross from the midfielder and placed the ball on the back of the net. There was no change in the scoreboard during the first half.
The attacks from Municipal Liberia continued in the second half, against a FC Desamparados that struggled to keep the ball.
It was on the 60th minute when the away team scored their second goal due to a through pass from the midfield into the forward, and a hesitant step from the goalkeeper.
Later on, FC Desamparados gave away another ball in the midfield in the 89th minute, leaving the team completely open, and where Liberia’s forward did not think twice of scoring the third goal.
Following the match, FC Desamparados will face Municipal Liberia on the second quarter finals game on Saturday, November 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño.
As the team is down by three, FC Desamparados needs to at least score 3 goals, while receiving none, to tie the series.
