With a total of 6,091 minutes, FC Desamparados finished on top of the list of the most minutes given to their sub 20 players.
From all the 17 teams currently playing on the Second Division tournament, FC Desamparados is the one that’s given more minutes and opportunities to their younger players.
The team played 16 games during the regular phase and gave 15 players, who are under 21 years of age, the opportunity to either debut or secure a spot as a starting player.
One of the young players with the most minutes played during the regular phase was the midfielder, Andrey Salmerón. With only 18 years of age, Salmerón has started all but one game, which he couldn’t play as he felt sick, accumulating a total of 1,350 minutes so far this season.

Based on an interview made to Salmerón, the midfielder shared his joy with the confidence the team has given him, “Personally, I feel really happy to be one of the most regular players in the team whilst being a sub 20 player,” says Salmerón.
He continued, “I believe it’s been a great tournament, not only individually but also collectively. We managed to reach our initial season goals, which was the qualification to the next round. And this is thanks to all the hard work and effort we put into every day that we manage to get the results.”
Salmerón hopes to have a good work rate to reach his goal, as he says “In the quarter finals I hope to improve my performance in order to contribute more to the team and reach the same goal of being champions.”
Note: Even though the official record of La Liga De Ascenso only shows a total of 6,091 minutes, the sub 20 players of FC Desamparados have actually accumulated a total of 6,779 minutes.
This is because for the last two games of regular season of each team, the league only counts the minutes of the two players with the most minutes for those games. That would be a maximum of 180 minutes per game between both players.
Hence, this is why, even though FC Desamparados sub 20 players had a total of 6,779 minutes, the official record only shows 6,091 minutes.
