FC Desamparados played the last game of regular season against Municipal Turrialba as a visitor on Sunday, October 30th at 1:00pm in the Estadio Rafael Ángel Camacho. The game was open to public and the final score was 3-1, with a win from the away team.
The game was played at a high tempo in a difficult, natural and irregular field. Nevertheless, it was FC Desamparados who gave the first punch in the 7th minute, when the team-captain, Randall Alvarado, found himself unmarked on the second post and scored off from a corner kick.
However, the advantage did not last long, as the forward Fabricio Venegas committed a foul inside the box, giving Municipal Turrialba a penalty kick. The home team scored off from the PK spot on the 16th minute.
The game continued back and forth, until the under-21-player, Luis Vera, was fouled inside the home teams’ box. It was Sergio Moreno, who was responsible of taking the shot, and the Panamanian did not miss. The second goal was scored by the end of the first half, in the 45+2’.
The attacks from both teams continued in second half. The game was played at a high momentum, yet neither was able to concrete their chances.
It was until the 78th minute, when Dylan Alpizar, who had just been subbed into the field, managed to bring peace to FC Desamparados scoring off after an excellent through pass, leaving the scoreboard at 3-1 full time.
Based on an interview made to the defender, captain and goal-scorer, Randall Alvarado, the team handled the game with a lot of confidence and responsibility, which is how they manage to get a positive result. “It was really important for us to rely only on us and not let anything to chance,” Alvarado says.
As the defender explained, even though it was a difficult game, the team responded, “The team managed to respond and that’s how we manage to gain a positive result to go to the next phase, which was really important for us,” Alvarado says.
As the captain for that game, Alvarado explained the goal he scored on the 7th minute gives him a lot of confidence, “I’m grateful for being able to contribute to my teammates, but more than that, I’m happy about the positive outcome of the game,” says Alvarado.
With the positive result, FC Desamparados reaches 25 points in Group B’s league table, and qualifies for the quarter finals.
Randall Alvarado expressed how the team is ready to take this new phase, as he says, “We’re happy about having to take on this new challenge, which is step by step. Now we have to think about the home game here on Sunday. Get a positive result, so that we manage to keep the series alive.”
Following the match, FC Desamparados will face Municipal Liberia on Sunday, November 6th. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00pm at the Estadio Jorge Hernán Cuty Monge.
