FC Desamparados won last Sunday, September 11th, against Cariari Pococí. The team continues its streak of no games lost in their home field, and once again, they didn’t receive a goal from the opponent team. The final score was 3-0, which even came with a penalty kick save from the Desamparados goalkeeper.
The game was played at 1:00pm at the Estadio Jorge Hernán “Cuty” Monge. It was open to public and the ticket had a cost of 2 mil colones.
The home team, FC Desamparados, opened the scoring in the 25th minute after the Sub-20 player, Sebastián Suñol, took a shot outside the box. The 18-year-old forward scored his first goal of the season.
The first half continued to be played at a high intensity, yet there was no change in the scoreboard.
It was until the 60th minute that the Panamanian and Sub-20 player, Jamall Dickens, scored the 2-0 with a header that came from a corner kick. This is the first goal of the defender with FC Desamparados.
Even though FC Desamparados had the lead, Cariari Pococí continued to create chances to score. On the 70th min, the referee called a penalty in favor of Cariari.
Nevertheless, the FC Desamparados’ goalkeeper, stopped the ball from going in. This is the third penalty the keeper attempts and succeeds to save so far this season.
The game continued to be back and forth, until the 89th minute when the team captain, Joram Fernández, secured to game. The defender scored the final goal of the game and his first of the season. The final score was of 3-0.
In addition, after receiving no goals, playing a solid defensive game and scoring a header, the Panamanian, Jamall Dickens, was chosen as the MVP of the game.
Dickens explained he was content with the job done as well as his goal, “I’m really happy the team was able to win the 3 points, as it was really important to do so. Plus, we had the obligation to win on our home field. I’m also extremely happy for scoring my first goal in this amazing team, one that has received me greatly since my arrival,” Dickens said.
He continued, “I know my teammates did a great job, from the goalkeeper all the way to the forwards. I’m going to continue to do the best in every practice so that I can show my best version in the following games.”
Following the match, FC Desamparados will travel to Limón on Sunday September 18th, to play against Limón Blackstar. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm at the Estadio Juan Gobán.
