The young player, Benjamín Ocampo, was called up to the Costa Rican U-17 National Team to face a friendly tournament in Guatemala, which is part of the preparation for the UNCAF and the 2023 Concacaf Tournament towards the World Cup that will take place in Perú next year.
“For me it is an honor and it fills me with great satisfaction to be here representing Costa Rica. Wearing the National Team jersey is a goal that I set for myself, but I know that there is still a lot to improve. I have a lot of learning and growth ahead of me,” Ocampo said.
After the tour of Guatemala ends, Ocampo will rejoin the Futbol Consultants Desamparados training, where he is focused on getting more minutes to be taken into consideration for the UNCAF Tournament that will take place in October.
Later on, La Sele will play the Concacaf pre-world championship in Guatemala.
“It fills me with great joy and makes me more hungry to continue fighting for what I have dreamed of for so long. Being in the National Team is what every player wants, it’s the best thing that can happen,” Ocampo said.
Ocampo believes that growing as a player from the Futbol Consultants Edson Soto academy allowed him to adapt well to international soccer, where he already had various internships and experiences he was able to apply to the National Team.
“Being in Consultants from the start up until today has allowed me to be where I am, as well as allowing me to achieve this first step in my short career,” Ocampo expressed.
