Two goals from Tommy Muñoz were enough for Futbol Consultants to defeat Barrio México 2-1 and once again reach the qualification zone for the quarterfinals.
From the opening kickoff, our team looked the better side. Thanks to the high pressure and solid possession early, the first goal came just in the 8th minute.
Muñoz and Sergio Moreno managed to put together a play that broke the rival defense and our number ‘7’ opened the scoring.
That goal gave Consultants peace of mind and from that moment on, we dominated possession. Although the goalkeeper, Alexandre Urbina, had to intervene on a couple of plays, we entered halftime up 1-0.
In the second half, things would not change much, as the boys continued to control the game and Muñoz would transform the dominance into another goal.
Tommy received a cross from Alexander Monge, shed his defender and, with his right foot, sent a missile far post.
With 5 minutes remaining in the match, the referee whistled for a penalty against Consultants and Monge was sent off.
Barrio México cut into our lead thanks Jonathan Hansen’s goal.
Despite the fact that almost 10 minutes of stoppage time were played, the scoreboard did not move any further and Consultants added three points that put them in fourth place in the group. With this result, Consultants depends on themselves to qualify.
The team has two games remaining in the regular season. The first will be next Friday, April 1st at 7 p.m. at the Ebal Rodríguez stadium in Guápiles against Cariari. The other is against Turrialba at the Cuty Monge stadium on a date and time to be confirmed.
